Abstract

The development of 21st century skills can be realized by improving argumentation skills. The realization of argumentation skills indicates that students have high-level reasoning skills. The results of a preliminary study at a State MTs in Ponorogo showed that argumentation skills were at an average of 44.3, which was very far from the minimum completion criteria of 75. Factors that caused the crisis in students' argumentation skills include learning that is not in accordance with the needs of students and learning objectives. Based on the results of previous studies, a solution is needed to improve students' argumentation skills, one of which is by using a Socioscientific approach.
This study aims to determine the feasibility or effectiveness of implementing learning based on a socioscientific approach to improve students' argumentation skills. The feasibility or effectiveness of implementing learning based on a socioscientific approach to improve students' argumentation skills is based on assessments from learning practitioners and socioscientific experts.
The research method used in this study is quantitative with the type of quasi-experimental design research with the only posttest control group design model. Data collection was carried out through tests including pretest and posttest as well as questionnaires which were then analyzed using the N-Gain test formula and t-test.
The implementation of learning based on the Socioscientific approach to improve students' argumentation skills at MTsN 3 Ponorogo and MTs An-Nuur Trisono was declared quite effective. Based on the results of expert suggestions from practitioners and Socioscientific experts, the implementation of learning based on the Socioscientific approach to improve argumentation skills at MTsN 3 Ponorogo and MTs An-Nuur Trisono requires improvements in discipline, class management, construction of teaching modules, content of teaching modules, increasing student activity and involvement, use of simple language, and use of praise to increase student learning motivation.
