The use of discussion methods in the teaching and learning process, apart from being a tool to achieve instructional goals, is also intended to obtain other benefits, namely to make children more active in learning. This is clear because with the group dicsussion method, students will be able to exchange information and experiences in exploring new areas.
This research aims to 1. To describe the implementation of Group Discussion at MAN 3 Madiun. 2. To describe the problems in English group discussion for class X MAN 3 Madiun. 3. To describe the teacher's solutions in overcoming problems when implementation group discussions.
This research was conducted at MAN 3 Madiun, using qualitative descriptive methods. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews and documentation. Data from interviews and observations were obtained in the form of interview and observation transcripts, as well documentation results in the form of lesson plans. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's theory which consists of three steps. The steps are data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. To test the validity of the data, researchers used triangulation of data sources.
Based on research results, The results of this research are: 1. The implementation of group discussion in teaching speaking at MAN 3 Madiun has several steps that are : The teacher raises a problem for discussion, with the teacher's leadership, and students discuss in their respective groups. 2.The problems in the implementation group discussion at MAN 3 Madiun are: Students are not focus on topic, and students cannot manage time. 3. The teacher's solutions to overcome the problems are: This discussion method is very good if applied in the classroom, and teacher solutions to overcome time management. Therefore, the discussion method also increases students' ambition to think or express their own ideas through many insights that are able to find answers.
