Abstract
Vocabulary and speaking are essential components in mastering a foreign language. Without sufficient vocabulary, students may find it difficult to express ideas, engage in conversations, and participate actively in learning activities. At MTs Al-Islam Nganjuk, efforts to support students' language development are reflected through the implementation of Daily Vocabulary Activities. These activities aim to provide regular and consistent exposure to new vocabulary, which in turn helps improve students' speaking skills in a structured and engaging manner.
The objectives of this study are to (1) Describe the implementation of Daily Vocabulary Activities, including objectives, materials, learning process, strategies, and evaluation, (2) describe the problems faced by Student Organization as a mentor in the daily vocabulary activities, and (3) explore the solutions to overcome these problems.
This research used a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Informants included English teachers, members of the student organization (OPPM) responsible for language programs, and selected students who actively participated in the Daily Vocabulary Activities. The analysis followed the interactive model of Miles and Huberman: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.
The findings show that Daily Vocabulary Activities significantly support students in acquiring new vocabulary and using it in daily communication. The vocabulary provided is relevant to their daily context, and the integration of speaking practice helps reinforce their understanding and confidence. In addition, the use of rewards, peer mentoring, and mandatory language policies enhance students’ motivation. However, problems such as difficulty in memorization and limited speaking fluency remain among some students.
