Abstract
Argumentation ability is one of the critical thinking skills that plays an essential role in the Akidah Akhlak subject, especially in understanding and responding to topics such as Despicable Morals. However, many students still struggle to construct logical and structured arguments. Therefore, an appropriate learning model is needed to develop this ability.
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the SQ3R (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review) model assisted by couple cards on the argumentation ability of sixth-grade students in the Akidah Akhlak subject on the topic of Despicable Morals at MIN 4 Ponorogo. The research method used was quantitative with a quasi-experimental design using a pretest-posttest control group design. Data collection was carried out through learning implementation observation and testing. Argumentation ability tests were administered before (pretest) and after (posttest) the treatment. The research sample consisted of class VI A as the control group and class VI B as the experimental group. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 25.
The implementation of the SQ3R learning model reached 88.5% in the first meeting and 100% in the second meeting, covering all stages from the introduction, core, to the closing activities in a structured manner. The analysis results showed a significant difference between the posttest scores of the experimental and control groups. The average posttest score of the experimental group was 94.60, while the control group scored 73.90. The independent sample t-test resulted in a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.001 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the two groups. Based on the N-gain test, the experimental class obtained an effectiveness score of 88%, categorized as high or effective, while the control class scored 34%, categorized as low or ineffective.
