Nowadays, English language education is very necessary for students in Indonesia. Therefore, we need appropriate media especially popular songs that are easy to apply, so that students as the target language can understand English comprehensively. Many English song’s lyrics contain interesting idioms that make them sound meaningful, beautiful and even more expressive. Idiomatic expression usually express phrase, sentences or word in subsequent. It defines verb, noun, adjective, or adverb combination which can contribute in assist English language learning. This study has three aims. The first is to find out the types of idiomatic expression in One Direction’s Album by title “Take Me Home” song lyrics. Second is to find out the most dominant types of idiomatic expression in the album.Third is to find out the contribution of idiomatic expression assist English Language learning.This research applied descriptive qualitative methods by using idiom meanings’s description and categorization according to Mc. Carthy and O’Dell theory. This research also use quantitative method to calculate percentage of each type of idioms in the album.
Based on the research, there are seven kinds of idiomatic expressions used in “Take Me Home” album. These are pure idiom (6,32%), partial idiom (26,58%), phrasal verb (27,84%), proverbs (20,25%), fixed statement (3,79%), binomial (11,39%), and clichés (3,79%). The researcher identified phrasal verb idioms (27,84 %) as the most frequently used idiomatic expressions in the album's lyrics. The contribution of idiomatic expressions in One Direction’s Album “ Take Me Home” song lyrics are used as reference for teaching material and homework for students. Furthermore, using English songs to teach idioms can be highly engaging and effective method. Teacher can combine this approach with pedagogical strategies such as song selection, idiom sentences identification, classroom activities (pre- listening, listening, and post listening), creative activities with students, and arranging activity flows in class.
