Based on a preliminary study conducted at MIN 2 Madiun City, class 1, the majority of teachers conduct the learning process using teacher's handbooks and textbooks. The textbooks provide long descriptions and make students less able to understand the concept if they are not accompanied by concrete examples of objects. Therefore, it is necessary to develop learning media that can have a major impact on the sustainability of the learning process. One of the appropriate learning media is the counting box learning media.
This study aims to develop a counting box learning media that has been tested for validity, attractiveness, and effectiveness. Where all the tests carried out have benefits for significantly improving the ability to understand the concept of addition and subtraction material for grade 1 students.
This research is a Research and Development (R & D) study using the ADDIE development model. The data collection process is in the form of questionnaires and written tests. This study used a sample of class 1 with a total of 23 students. The aspects validated to the validator are content and media design. The attractiveness of the counting box learning media can be seen by giving questionnaire responses to students. The effectiveness of this counting box learning media can be seen by giving written tests in the form of pretests and posttests. Data analysis techniques, namely validation tests using a Likert scale, attractiveness tests using attractiveness percentages, and effectiveness tests using the N-Gain test.
The results of this study are: 1) the process of developing counting box learning media through 5 stages 2) the counting box media is declared very valid and feasible to use after being validated by the validator. 3) the counting box media is declared very interesting as shown by the results of the positive responses of students who obtained a percentage of 100%. 4) the counting box media is declared effective as shown by the results of the N-Gain test, data was obtained of 76, while in terms of student learning completeness, the data has reached the minimum completeness criteria (KKM) of 75. Therefore, it can be concluded that the counting box learning media has been proven valid, interesting, and effective to be used to improve students' understanding abilities.
