Darussalam Bangunsari Islamic Boarding School is one of the Islamic educational institutions in Ponorogo that supports the development of students’ speaking skills. Although it is located in an Islamic boarding school emphasizing religious studies, the student’s foreign language skills will not develop optimally without special activities supporting language practice. One of the efforts made by Darussalam Bangunsari Islamic Boarding School is to organize an English program called ITTABA (Ittihadud Thulab wal Muhibul Khitobah), which focuses on Muhadhoroh activities. The purpose of organizing ITTABA is to provide a forum for Muhadhoroh practice.
The objectives of this study are 1) To find out how to implementation of ITTABA Program activities in developing the ability to speak in public speaking of students at the
Darussalam Islamic Boarding School Bangunsari Ponorogo. 2) To find out the challenges faced by the Mentor in implementing the ITTABA Program at Darussalam Islamic Boarding School
Bangunsari Ponorogo. 3) To find out how the Mentor overcomes the challenges in the implementation of the ITTABA Program at Darussalam Islamic Boarding School Bangunsari Ponorogo.
This study used a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was used to
reduce data, present data, and draw Conclusions.
The results of this study found that: 1) Implementation of the ITTABA Program at the Darussalam Bangunsari Islamic Boarding School. The implementation of ITTABA at the Darussalam Bangunsari Islamic Boarding School was carried out through Muhadhoroh activities. Mentor intensively supervised the implementation of this program. 2) The obstacles faced by the Mentors included students lacking self-confidence, limited vocabulary, and not being used to using foreign languages in everyday life. 3) To overcome this, mentors provided
motivation and a personal approach and created an environment that supported active language practice. The process of preparing and delivering speeches by students was carried out with intensive guidance so that they could appear more confident and fluent when speaking in public.
