Abstract
High school students’ academic achievement is a determining factor in the success of the learning process. An optimal learning process and effective specialized services, such as guidance and counseling services, can support students’ academic achievement. However, guidance and counseling services in some schools have not yet actively influenced students’ academic achievement. Therefore, systematic and sustainable guidance and counseling management is needed to help students overcome learning barriers and improve their academic achievement.
This study aims to analyze (1) the planning process of guidance and counseling in improving students’ academic achievement; (2) the organizational process of guidance and counseling in improving students’ academic achievement; (3) the implementation process of guidance and counseling in improving students’ academic achievement; (4) the process of monitoring guidance and counseling to improve students’ academic achievement; and (5) the impact of implementing guidance and counseling management on improving students’ academic achievement.
This research employed a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data, collection was conducted through interviews, observation, and documentation. The resulting data were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman analysis model, which includes data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.
Based on the research results, it was found that, (1) the guidance and counseling planning process was carried out by analyzing student needs, analyzing the school situation and conditions, setting goals, determining types, techniques, and strategies, determining the time and place of guidance and counseling. As well as, determining facilities and budget costs. (2) Organizing guidance and counseling was done by dividing tasks, carrying out internal coordination, collaborating with external parties of the school. As well as, determining work procedures. (3) Implementation of guidance and counseling was carried out by providing classical guidance services, personal guidance, group guidance, and individual counseling, in the form of home visits. The school also used formal methods or approaches in the BK room or class and non-formal approaches outside the class, (4) Control of guidance and counseling was carried out by recording work results, measuring and assessing work results, determining follow-up. As well as, monitoring. (5) The impact of implementing guidance and counseling management at SMAN 1 Purwantoro in improving student academic achievement can be seen through: (a) report card scores. (b) graduation rates. and (c) educational duration.
