Vocabulary mastery and learning motivation are important factors in English language learning. Students with limited vocabulary often encounter difficulties in understanding texts and expressing their ideas, while low motivation may reduce their participation in the learning process. Therefore, the use of appropriate learning media is needed to support students in improving their vocabulary mastery and maintaining their motivation in learning English. One learning medium that can support this process is the POC English YouTube Channel, which provides contextual and engaging video-based learning materials.
This study aimed to examine whether the use of the POC English YouTube Channel had a significant effect on students’ vocabulary mastery and their motivation for independent English learning.
This study employed a quasi-experimental research design involving an experimental class and a control class. The sample consisted of 57 eleventh-grade students at SMAN 1 Balong, with 29 students in the experimental class and 28 students in the control class. The data were collected through vocabulary pre-tests and post-tests as well as a learning motivation questionnaire. The data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 23, including normality tests, homogeneity tests, and Independent Samples t-tests.
The findings showed that the significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) for both vocabulary mastery and learning motivation was 0.000, which was lower than 0.05. This result indicates that there was a statistically significant difference between the experimental and control classes. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of the POC English YouTube Channel was effective in improving students’ vocabulary mastery and enhancing their motivation for independent English learning.
