Indonesian language learning, particularly narrative writing skills, continues to face challenges at Wilangan Elementary School, Ponorogo. Fourth-grade students struggle to express their ideas, producing monotonous writing with minimal plot development and a lack of creativity. This is due to the lack of varied learning media, which makes it difficult for students to develop coherent ideas. Therefore, picture series are used as an alternative learning method because they provide visual stimulation through a series of chronologically arranged images, thereby stimulating students' imagination and creativity in writing narrative texts.
This study aims to describe the process of using picture series in teaching narrative writing, analyze how picture series fosters creativity in writing narrative texts, and identify factors influencing their implementation among fourth-grade students at Wilangan Elementary School, Ponorogo.
This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study approach. It was conducted in February 2026. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model, encompassing data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and data verification or conclusion drawing.
The results of the study showed that (1) the application of a series of pictures in learning to write narrative texts was systematic and helped students find ideas, organize plots, and develop writing coherently. (2) The use of a series of pictures was proven to have a role in fostering students' creativity in writing narrative texts, which was seen from the increase in aspects of fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration, with most students in the Good and Very Good categories. (3) Supporting factors included the availability of facilities, teacher readiness, and student interest, while obstacles included limited time, student ability, vocabulary, and facilities. Teachers overcame these by providing media independently, providing examples, as well as providing guidance and motivation to students. Overall, the series of pictures played a role in fostering creativity in writing narrative texts in fourth-grade students of SDN Wilangan Ponorogo. Although there were linguistic obstacles that required ongoing guidance, this media played an important role as a visual stimulus that supported the creative thinking process, helped students express ideas, develop stories, and improve the overall quality of narrative writing.
