The objective of this research is to explore the implementation of a conversation program in teaching vocabulary at MTsN 1 Ponorogo. Vocabulary is a crucial element in language learning, yet students often encounter difficulties in mastering and applying it in communication. This study focuses on how a structured conversation program is integrated into the teaching process to facilitate students' vocabulary acquisition in a more communicative and practical way.
This research utilized a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with the Vice Principal of Curriculum and English teachers, classroom observations, and documentation analysis. The data analysis involved the stages of data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions to provide a detailed description of the program's execution and its impact on the teaching and learning process.
The findings reveal that the conversation program at MTsN 1 Ponorogo was implemented through various activities, such as daily speaking drills, peer tutoring sessions, and the consistent use of the Direct Method to encourage students to think and speak in English. The program successfully created an interactive environment where students could practice vocabulary directly.
The results suggest that exploring this conversation-based approach significantly enhanced students' engagement and confidence in using new vocabulary. However, the study also identified certain obstacles, including the need for more diverse teaching materials and varying student motivation levels. In conclusion, the implementation of the conversation program serves as a valuable strategy in teaching vocabulary, offering a more effective alternative to conventional memorization techniques.
