Abstract

Keywords: Students’ Perception, QR-Code Videos, English Handbook
This research is motivated by the development of technology in education, which encourages the use of digital learning media, one of which is QR-Code-based video in English learning in a bilingual classroom. This media is expected to help students understand the material more easily, increase their learning motivation, and promote independent learning. However, in practice, not all students have the same learning experience when using this media, so it is important to explore students’ perceptions toward its use.
This study aims to: (1) identify students’ perceptions toward the usage of QR-Code-based videos in terms of cognitive, affective, and conative aspects in bilingual English learning; and (2) examine how these perceptions contribute to students’ learning motivation.
This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach. The participants consist of 10 students from three bilingual classes of eleventh grade at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo, selected using purposive sampling. The data are collected through interviews as the main data and questionnaires as supporting data. The data are analyzed using thematic analysis, including data familiarization, coding, searching for themes, reviewing themes, defining themes, and producing the report.
The findings revealed that students generally had positive perceptions toward the use of QR-Code-based videos in English learning. In the cognitive aspect, students perceived that the videos helped them understand learning materials more clearly and effectively. In the affective aspect, students showed positive feelings and emotional responses, such as enjoyment, interest, enthusiasm, and motivation during the learning process. In the conative aspect, students demonstrated positive intentions and learning behaviours, including re-watching videos, reviewing materials, and participating more actively in learning activities. The findings also indicated that these positive perceptions contributed to students’ learning motivation by fostering both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Students showed intrinsic motivation through their interest in trying QR-Code videos, exploring learning materials, seeking additional information, and enjoying the learning process. Meanwhile, extrinsic motivation was reflected in their recognition of the benefits of QR-Code videos, their support for learning goal achievement, and their responsiveness to teacher instructions. The questionnaire results supported the interview findings, showing that most students viewed QR-Code-based videos as useful, engaging, and beneficial for learning, although some students still experienced challenges related to independent learning, peer interaction, and internet accessibility. Overall, QR-Code-based videos provided positive contributions to students’ learning experiences and motivation in bilingual English classrooms.
