Key terms: English Club, and speaking Activities

Language is a communication system consisting of sounds and written symbols used by people in a country or region to talk to each other, including English as one of them. English is a means of oral and written communication that is used internationally so it is very important to learn. English Club is one of the programs to develop English speaking skills at SMPN 5 Ponorogo. This English club program was formed as a forum for students who want to deepen their knowledge of English, especially speaking skills. This is because they have little time to learn English in a formal setting, which is once a week. The purpose of this program is to make a good contribution to improving members' speaking skills and fostering good English speaking habits
The purpose of this study is to (1) To find out how the learning strategis used by the english club in teaching students’ speaking skills, especially in terms of vocabullary, grammar, fluency, and pronunciation at SMPN 5 Ponorogo. (2) To find out what alternative solutions are used by tutors to overcome student obstacles in speaking activities at English clubs.
This study was conducted using a descriptive qualitative research design, which aims to explore and describe phenomena in a natural setting without using numerical data. The qualitative approach was chosen to allow researchers to gain a deeper understanding of the learning strategies implemented by English Club tutors and alternative solutions used to overcome students' difficulties in the classroom. Data collection was carried out using 2 techniques: observation and interviews. Observation allowed researchers to directly witness the teaching and learning activities carried out at the English Club, especially those related to speaking skills. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with three English Club tutors and six student members to gather in-depth information about their experiences, challenges, and strategies. The participants in this study consisted of three English Club tutors who were tasked with designing and facilitating speaking activities, and six students who actively participated in the English Club at SMPN 5 Ponorogo. The selection of participants was carried out purposively, based on active involvement and relevance to the focus of the study..
Based on data analysis, it was found that (1) the types of speaking activities in the English Club include discussions, storytelling, and games. (2) Alternative problem solving carried out by tutors in overcoming these obstacles is providing motivation to overcome obstacles to member attendance, providing corrections and consultations to overcome obstacles to members, and holding games so that students do not get bored or sleepy.
