Abstract
Education is the main pillar in the life of the nation in forming quality human resources. The PISA score results state that Indonesia is ranked 69th out of 80 countries or the bottom 12th with a score of 1,108. The condition of Indonesian education like this shows serious improvements in the education system that is in accordance with the development of the times. The head of the madrasah is the key in organizing the education process, the head of the madrasah is required to be able to carry out managerial functions well. In addition to managerial, teachers also have an important role in improving the quality of education. To realize quality teachers, one step that can be taken is to improve teacher performance.
This study aims to determine, understand, and analyze the stages of managerial competence of madrasah principals, starting from 1) planning, 2) implementation, to 3) evaluation in improving teacher performance at MTs Al-Islam Joresan Ponorogo.
This study uses a qualitative approach, with a case study research type. Data collection techniques are carried out through interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis techniques are carried out by data analysis, data condensation, data presentation, drawing and verifying conclusions. Meanwhile, checking the validity of the research was carried out by increasing perseverance, as well as triangulation of techniques and sources. The results of this study are 1) the managerial competence of the madrasah principal in program planning at MTs Al-Islam Joresan Ponorogo is carried out every year at the beginning of the new school year, which begins with a) team formation, b) identifying obstacles or problems that occurred in the previous year's program, and c) adjusting the program to the vision, mission, and objectives of the madrasah and the latest curriculum. 2) the managerial competence of the madrasah principal in implementing the program at MTs Al-Islam Joresan Ponorogo is carried out by involving teachers to be involved in the planned program. Among the programs to improve teacher performance are in accordance with what has been planned. a) Implementation of the Independent Curriculum (IKM) workshop, b) English Teacher Workshop, c) Arabic teacher refreshment, d) Mathematics teacher training, e) Upgrading Imla' Teachers, f) BTQ training, g) Subject Teacher Deliberation (MGMP) training, h) Studium Generale (SG), i) Istighāṡah, and j) teacher attendance control. In addition, the head of the madrasah also provides motivation to support the smooth running of the learning process. 3) The managerial competence of the head of the madrasah in evaluating the program at MTs Al-Islam Joresan Ponorogo is carried out with daily and monthly evaluations. One of them in overcoming teacher discipline, the head of the madrasah followed up by creating the SIAP KBM application to make it easier for the head of the madrasah to monitor teacher attendance.
