Abstract
Mastering writing skills remains one of the major challenges for junior high school students, particularly in organizing ideas, using appropriate grammar, and constructing coherent texts. Conventional learning methods that rely heavily on textbooks and lack digital media support often fail to increase student engagement. In response to this issue, this research focuses on developing a digital-based worksheet that meets the criteria of validity and practicality to enhance students’ writing skills, specifically in teaching procedural texts.
The main objective of this study is to develop appropriate and practical teaching materials to support writing activities in English language classrooms. The worksheet was designed using Canva to help students visually organize their ideas and improve their writing skills through engaging and structured activities. The integration of digital media is expected to increase students’ learning motivation by incorporating technology into the teaching and learning process.
This research employs the Research and Development (R&D) approach by adopting the 4D model, which consists of four stages: Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The development process involved needs analysis, validation from material and media experts, followed by a product trial conducted with seventh-grade students at SMPN 01 Kauman Ponorogo. Instruments used in this study included expert validation sheets and student response questionnaires to evaluate the feasibility and practicality of the developed product.
The research findings indicate that both material and media experts gave an average score of 3.5, categorized as "Very Feasible." In addition, students gave enthusiastic responses during the product trial, with a total score percentage of 88.04%, placing the product in the "Very Practical" category. Thus, it can be concluded that the Canva-based digital worksheet developed for procedural text material is both feasible and practical for use in English writing instruction at the junior high school level.
