Abstract
Writing is one of the skills that students must have to improve their English
language skills. This ability will affect students’ creativity, resulting from their
critical thinking process. However, several problems hinder the development of
these abilities, such as students' difficulty determining ideas and feeling confused
when composing paragraphs. Therefore, the researcher used the fishbone organizer
to help them organize ideas, write them in sentences or paragraphs, and enhance
their critical thinking.
This research aims to determine the effectiveness of using a fishbone
organizer media to enhance the tenth graders’ writing skills at SMAN 1 Sambit
Ponorogo. Moreover, it examines the effectiveness of using a fishbone organizer
media to enhance the tenth graders’ critical thinking skills at SMAN 1 Sambit
Ponorogo.
This research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental
design. So, it required an experimental and a control class. The sample used was
the students of classes X-1 and X-4 SMAN 1 Sambit Ponorogo, each class totalling
31 students. Data collection used a test and a questionnaire. Then, the data analysis
was processed using the independent sample t-test formula and visualised with
SPSS software.
The students’ writing ability was tested based on the result obtained, and the
significance was found (0.001<0.05). So that Ha is accepted. Moreover, the results
of the hypothesis test of the control class and the experimental class were also found
to be significant (0.005<0.05). So that Ha Is accepted and H0 is rejected. It can be
concluded that there is a significant difference in the tenth graders’ writing skills
using the fishbone organizer media. Furthermore, it significantly differed in
improving students’ critical thinking skills in grade ten in SMAN 1 Sambit
Ponorogo.
