Abstract
Illocutionary and perlocutionary acts are two inseparable aspects of everyday life because they play an important role in communication. An illocutionary act is a speaker’s utterance that carries meaning and purpose. The perlocutionary act is the effect uttered by the hearer based on the speaker’s utterance. Therefore, illocutionary and perlocutionary acts are interconnected.
This research has two aims. First, to analyze the types of illocutionary acts spoken by Joy as a character in the Inside Out 2 movie. Second, to analyze the perlocutionary act spoken by characters in the Inside Out 2 movie.
This research applied descriptive qualitative research as a research approach and used content analysis as a research design. The data source in this research used the movie and movie script of Inside Out 2 as primary data, while the secondary data are journals, articles, e-books, and printed books. The researcher used a documentary technique as a data collection technique. The data analysis technique used Miles and Huberman's theory.
The results of this research show that, first, there are four types of illocutionary act uttered by Joy in the Inside Out 2 movie, those are assertive (76), directive (116), expressive (44), and commisive (31) so the total utterance of Joy in Inside Out 2 is 267 utterances. Secondly, there are many utterances of perlocutionary acts, and most of the perlocutionary act matches the speaker's purpose, while in some cases the hearer doesn’t do the speaker’s purpose.
