Abstract

The use of Digital Authentic Materials (DAM) has gained increasing attention in English language learning because it provides learners with exposure to authentic language and real-world communication contexts. In the digital era, materials such as online videos, news articles, podcasts, and social media content offer meaningful learning experiences that connect classroom instruction with actual language use. This is particularly relevant in the International Class Program (ICP), where students are expected to develop communicative competence through extensive English exposure. Therefore, this study aims to explore how Digital Authentic Materials are used in English language learning and to investigate their perceived impacts on students in the SMAGA International Class Program (SICP).
This study employed a qualitative descriptive design with a case study approach. The research was conducted at SMAN 3 Ponorogo and involved one English teacher and six students from the SMAGA International Class Program (SICP). Data were collected through classroom observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. To ensure the credibility of the findings, data triangulation was applied by comparing information obtained from different sources and techniques.
The findings revealed that the teacher used various forms of Digital Authentic Materials, including YouTube videos, online articles, and social media content, to support English language learning. These materials were integrated into classroom activities through discussions, comprehension tasks, and interactive learning activities that provided authentic language exposure and meaningful communication opportunities. The findings also indicated that the use of Digital Authentic Materials had positive perceived impacts on students, particularly in increasing motivation, engagement, vocabulary acquisition, and understanding of authentic language use. Furthermore, the materials identified in this study fulfilled the criteria of authenticity as they were created for real communicative purposes and used in meaningful learning contexts. In conclusion, Digital Authentic Materials serve as valuable resources for creating contextual, engaging, and meaningful English language learning experiences in the SMAGA International Class Program (SICP).
