This study was motivated by the importance of mastering pronunciation in English language learning, particularly for visually impaired students who face limitations in accessing visual information. Therefore, audio-based media and assistive technologies such as Non-Visual Desktop Access (NVDA) are needed to support a more inclusive and effective learning process.
This study aims to: (1) analyze the implementation of NVDA in pronunciation instruction, (2) identify the challenges faced by teachers, and (3) describe the solutions and strategies used to address these challenges among visually impaired students at SMPLB Aisyiyah Ponorogo.
This study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. The research subjects consisted of one English teacher and three visually impaired students from the 8th grade at SMPLB Aisyiyah Ponorogo. Data collection techniques included observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, and its validity was tested through triangulation of sources and techniques.
The research findings indicate that the use of NVDA is context-dependent and employed as needed to access audio materials. Challenges faced include limited technological proficiency and difficulty understanding the audio. The strategies employed by teachers include repetition, teacher modeling, and feedback.
