Abstract

One of Ponorogo's madrasah that falls under the category of Islamic boarding schools is MA Wali Songo Putra. Even within the pesantren's purview, students' foreign language proficiency won't grow if they don't create any unique behaviors. Organizing extracurricular activities is one of MA Wali Songo Putra's initiatives. It's the programs for muhadharah. The application of muhadharah at MA Wali Songo Putra aims to improve students' speaking skills and teach them other languages. The Purpose of this research were 1) to know the implementation of muhadharah in building students’ speaking skill at MA Wali Songo Putra. 2) to know the stenghts of muhadharah in building students’ speaking skill at MA Wali Songo Putra.
The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through intensive observation of the Muhadharah sessions, semi-structured interviews with the program coordinators and students, and documentation of relevant school records. The analysis followed the stages of data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the extracurricular activities from the planning to the evaluation stage
The result of this research are: 1) the Muhadharah program is implemented systematically every Sunday and Thursday night, involving students in speech practices using English. 2) The process includes script preparation, mental training, and direct evaluation by tutors to improve performance. 3) Students' spiritual resilience and self-confidence have grown as a result of this exercise, which also helps them feel less nervous when speaking in front of an audience.
For conclusion, every Thursday night at MA Wali Songo Putra, Muhadharah activities are implemented in a methodical and consistent manner. A week before the presentation, there is a preparation phase (I'dad), after which mentors provide prompt feedback on articulation, intonation, and stage presence. using the English, this exercise has been shown to be beneficial for developing character, increasing self-assurance, lowering anxiety related to public speaking, expanding vocabulary, and enhancing pronunciation using the shadowing approach. Although a supportive boarding school environment, strong peer motivation, intensive tutoring, and sufficient facilities all contribute to the program's success, students still encounter challenges like limited vocabulary, grammatical errors, stage fright, and technical issues like unclear articulation and poor pacing.
