Abstract

Maharani, Vania Cintia. 2026. The Effectiveness of Soliloquizing-Based Vocaroo
on Students’ Speaking Skills at MAN 1 Ponorogo. Sarjana’s Thesis,
English Language Teaching Department Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher
Training State Islamic Institute of Ponorogo. Advisor: Dr. Dhinuk Puspita
Kirana, M.Pd.

Keywords: Soliloquizing,Vocaroo,Speaking Skills,Quasi-Experimental,Students.

Mastering speaking skills are crucial for English proficiency, but eleventh-
grade students at MAN 1 Ponorogo often struggle to master them due to anxiety
and lack of time for independent practice. Theoretically, the Soliloquizing method
is a cognitive technique that helps students internalize language through self-talk.
This allows students to organize their thoughts without pressure from others. In
this approach, Vocaroo media serves as a digital scaffolding that allows students
to conduct independent evaluations, or self-evaluations, of their own work.
This research specifically investigates the effectiveness of Vocaroo-based
soliloquizing in improving students' speaking skills at MAN 1 Ponorogo. By
providing a digitally accessible private practice space, this research is crucial to
addressing the limitations of school hours. This technique is expected to improve
linguistic aspects and build students' confidence in verbal communication before
interacting with others in a wider social environment by minimizing students'
affective filters in a safe practice environment.
This research used a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design.
The research population consisted of 300 students in eleventh grade at MAN 1
Ponorogo. Due to practical constraints and accessibility, a convenience sampling
technique was employed to select the sample, which consisted of two classes only.
Class XI D served as the experimental class with 25 students using the Vocaroo-
based Soliloquizing method, and class XI E served as the control class with 25
students using the regular learning method. To evaluate their speaking
performance, both pre-test and post-test were administered, assessing five key
aspects: fluency, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and content organization.
Furthermore, all collected quantitative data were processed and calculated by
using IBM SPSS version 25.
The results of data analysis using the Independent Samples T Test showed a
2-tailed significance value of 0.003, less than 0.05. This indicates that H0 is
rejected and Hα is accepted, indicating that the experimental class and the control
class have significant differences in speaking skills. According to the N-Gain test,
the experimental class obtained a score of 0.3577, which is in the medium
category, while the control class obtained a score of 0.1718, which is in the low
category. In short, the Soliloquizing-based Vocaroo technique successfully
improved students' speaking skills at MAN 1 Ponorogo by providing a structured
and pressure-free digital environment for them to do it themselves.
