Abstract
Vocabulary mastery is a fundamental component of English language learning; however, many students still struggle to comprehend and actively use English vocabulary. The Direct Method assisted by Wordwall media serves as an instructional approach expected to enhance students' motivation and engagement in learning vocabulary in EFL classrooms.
This research aims to determine whether there is a significant difference in vocabulary mastery between students taught using the Direct Method assisted by Wordwall media and those taught using a conventional method at MAN 1
Ponorogo.
This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design involving two classes: an experimental class (X D) and a control class (X C), each consisting of 30 students. Data were collected through pre-test and posttest, and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test, Mann Whitney U Test, and N-Gain analysis.
The results indicate that the experimental class experienced a significant improvement in mean score from 60.56 in the pre-test to 92.04 in the post-test, while the control class improved from 57.22 to 87.40. The Mann-Whitney U Test yielded a significance value of 0.047, indicating a significant difference between the two classes. The N-Gain score of the experimental class (0.6873) was higher than that of the control class (0.5511), leading to the conclusion that the use of the Direct Method assisted by Wordwall media is more effective in improving students'
vocabulary mastery at MAN 1 Ponorogo.
