Abstract

The implementation of learning through the TikTok platform in schools aims to serve as a medium for English language learning and to boost students’ confidence in communicating globally. However, many students still struggle with speaking, facing challenges such as a lack of confidence, limited vocabulary, and low motivation to learn. Therefore, engaging and interactive learning tools or media are needed to support the process of learning to speak. One such medium is TikTok; through the use of TikTok, students can learn, improve their speaking fluency, and boost their confidence in speaking English. Based on this, this study was conducted to examine the implementation of TikTok as a medium for teaching speaking and students’ responses to its use in English language learning at SMK PSM 1 Kawedanan.
This research aims to investigate the implementation of TikTok as a media for teaching speaking and to explore students’ responses toward its use in English learning. This study employed a qualitative research design and was conducted at SMK PSM 1 Kawedanan. The data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using qualitative data analysis techniques proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which include data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The research findings indicate that the use of TikTok in speaking instruction is effective when implemented in several stages, including introduction, practice, and evaluation. Interview results reveal that students find TikTok engaging, feel more motivated, and become more confident in speaking. In addition, students demonstrate improvement in their speaking skills.
In conclusion, TikTok as a teaching media makes a positive contribution to improving students’ English proficiency and engagement, enhances pronunciation, and builds self-confidence. However, several challenges have been identified, such as limited internet access and technical issues. Overall, TikTok can be considered an effective and innovative tool for teaching speaking skills because it creates an engaging and interactive learning environment.
